A perfect night was lived at the Jalisco Stadium, as Los Rojinegros took down in convincing fashion Club America with a 3-0 win this Friday night in Week 8 of the Apertura 2019 season. Jesus Isijara, Ismael Govea and Brayan Trejo scored for Atlas, giving them 3 huge points going into the international break and before the Clasico Tapatio in two weeks.

From the beginning of this one, it was clear that America would concede possession to Atlas, given all the injured players they have, forcing them to play several young guys from the start. Los Rojinegros took advantage of it tonight with a good overall performance.

A VAR situation came quickly at the 6th minute, as Paul Aguilar deflected an Atlas shot at the area with his arm. The referee consulted the VAR screen, but did not give the penalty kick for the locals. What do you thought about that play?

Given the strategy implemented by Miguel Herrera, Las Aguilas only found chances counterattacking, but one of them was the best one for the visitors in the first half. With a couple of touches and three players, America managed to create a 1v1 situation vs  Camilo Vargas. Fortunately for Los Rojinegros, Renato Ibarra couldn’t convert his chance.

As the first 45 minutes faded, Atlas found their prize with a nice header from Jesus Isijara, giving La Academia the lead right before the break, a huge confidence boost for them. Shortly after, America coach Herrera was canned by the ref, arguing something from the play where Los Zorros scored.

Las Aguilas came out firing after the break, as Roger Martinez hit the post with right-footed shot, almost tying the game. America kept creating little plays that put pressure on the defense, but they weren’t sharp enough to convert them. Los Rojinegros were a bit more clinical tonight.

Another cross, another header won by a Rojinegro gave Atlas a commanding 2-0 lead, as Ismael Govea scored his first goal in the Liga BBVA MX at the 63rd minute, adding a nice back flip in the celebrations (shout-out to the OG, Bruno Marioni).

In the end, America tried everything to get into this match, but Los Rojinegros were very disciplined at defending their lead. A counterattack play conducted by youngster Brayan Trejo ended up in the third goal scored by Atlas, a nice prize for Trejo, who has been playing good since Coach Leandro Cufre inserted him in the starting lineup. Martin Nervo saw the red card for Atlas at the end of the match after the ref checked the VAR screen, as he’ll probably miss the Clasico Tapatio vs Chivas in two weeks.

Overall, La Academia showed a bit of consistency after almost taking down Tigres on Tuesday and sit at a liguilla spot as we speak. Big win and a huge performance!

What’s next?

After the international break, Los Rojinegros will make a quick visit Zapopan to face Chivas in another edition of the Clasico Tapatio.
