It’s a new season and it appears that every time we have a Clasico both teams are getting better and better making this match one of the most entertaining in the season. This time around we have both teams in the top five and with a lot of teams closing in behind Atlas needs this W to stay in that position.
Even though it was center back Fernanda Limon who gave Atlas the winning goal last week, she and the rest of the defense have been the weakest part of the team. From blowing 2-0 home lead against Xolos to getting absolutely exposed against Tigres, Atlas back zone has been getting problems the whole season. Coach Samayoa doesn’t have many options but to hope they get better throughout the weeks.
Atlas hasn’t played with their full squad since week 1 with national team call-ups and injuries. Being in 3rd place with all that it’s pretty impressive. Iturbide is back but Alison is now on MNT Camp and Joana Robles is still in recovery.
We talked with Joana recently and after thanking us for the coverage we give to the team she gave us her thoughts about her recovery: “Sometimes I feel frustrated for not being on the field, but it’s important to not rush the process and potentially getting hurt near playoffs or worse.”
Chivas will always be a tough team to beat, and the same as their male counterpart they signed a LOT of new players. They come from an easy win against Xolos and will try to make a statement against the 3rd place Atlas.
Las Rojinegras, on the other hand, will face Monterrey in 2 weeks and winning these next two games will be huge if they want to stay on top of the league.
In summary, Atlas can come back from behind to get a win but they can also blow a lead. Let’s hope our offense can keep our defense on the lead.
